Your thoughts aren't enough to define you.
Your mind isn't all that you are.
Your other's the witness inside you
Who offers a voice to a scar.
They say that he's quick and he's clever.
Impartial, he's never misled.
But no, he's not much for endeavor—
He's there to bear witness instead.
He'll notice your every condition
That pain never wants to recall;
Your horrors, your wasted ambitions
And sorrows: He'll notice them all.
Although it remains undiscovered
There's wisdom in what he's observed:
The lessons you've got to uncover,
The troubling things he's preserved.
Just ask him to see and he'll show you;
To find him, just float in the dark.
And always remember, he knows you—
His whispers encourage a spark.
