James, I love the poem. I am a great fan of poetry that dips into fantasy and creates wonderful images in your mind. "Moonlight Mansion" did that for me. It reminded me of other epic poems like "Childe Rowland,:" and "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight."

That's very kind of you, Sandy, and I really appreciate the comparison! The form is indeed from Sir Gawain. (To be more precise, I've borrowed a lot of Tolkien's ideas of alliterative form as it might be applied to modern English.) Doing my best to do justice to his insights as well as the achievement of the original.

I felt Tolkien in the poem. I think Tolkien's brilliant poems in LORD OF THE RINGS is sometimes overlooked. I'm surprised that a volume of Poems from The Lord of the Rings has never been a separate publication...with illustrations. :)

Thanks, Zane! I wanted to push through and get to the next bits, where I think it'll get really wild, but first thing's first.

So glad it was! As I'm sure you can attest, these kinds of projects unfortunately need their proper time and space; what I always want to do is crank them out to see what happens. I'm glad it doesn't work like that, however, as it keeps me patient.
